A Victorian version of a laptop computer, this antique traveling or lap desk has a secret compartment with tiny drawers, which springs open by lifting a divider.

The fold-open box is burl with marquetry and pearl inlay. The original finish has glowing patina, there is an age shrinkage separation across the top - see photos.

Inside, the leather interior writing surface raises, revealing stationery compartments. This antique jewel dates from about 1875, and is 12" long, 9" wide and 6" tall when closed.
