An outstanding Victorian "S" curve rolltop desk is signed on the brass keyhole plate, "Northwestern Furniture Co., Milwaukee." The solid birch hardwood has a very good finish in a warm cherry tone. The glowing warm patina is beautiful, with only minor mars and wear.
The roll operates smoothly, inside are tiny cubicles, pencil and letter holders, and a mail slot at the right end. Deep drawers have dovetailed joinery, there is a large file drawer and two pull-out shelves. The center drawer has dividers and an original oak front.
Paneled and finished all around, this antique furniture shows superior American craftsmanship from about 1900.
The upper section is removable for easier moving. Size is 5' long, 34" deep, 49" tall, the writing surface is 30" high, the generous kneehole is over 25" wide and 26" tall.
