Oak 25 Cent Burlesque Theater Turnstile Collector

  $575.00

Item sold on 2009-10-12

We were told this cabinet was from a Chicago burlesque theater, this oak, iron and bronze turnstile collector is operated by quarters. When a 25 cent piece is dropped into the coin slot, the button is pressed and the star-shaped iron wheel on the right side can be pushed to the next position.

Signed on the back, the brass plate is engraved "Pat. June 25, 1917, H.V. Bright Mfg., Cleveland." The turnstile portion itself is missing. Coins fall into the lower compartment, which has a bronze latch where a padlock could be attached.

The design and heavy-weight construction of this rugged American antique is from an age when 25 cents was a fairly substantial sum. Size of this nostalgic piece is 16" wide, 12" deep and 3' tall.
