Authentic American Empire furniture from the 1840's, this mahogany Pembroke or dropleaf table was also called a work table, used for needlework and writing.
Handmade dovetails are visible in the drawers and body, the leaves are raised with carved wooden supports underneath. The top is solid mahogany, the base is matched flame grain. The finish is impeccable on all four sides.
A table for many uses, it was intended to be chairside, with the adjustable top, there was room for needlework, writing or tea. One drawer has compartments for inkwells and pens, drawer bottoms were replaced with birdseye maple about 100 years ago.
This antique would also make a nice bedside table, size is 20" square and 29" tall, with both leaves raised, width is 39" total.
