This country pine trunk or blanket chest is entirely hand made, with original wrought iron hardware, lock and key. The folk style hand painting is often called "rosemaling," and dates from about 1850 or earlier.
The backside is finished, so this furniture would be a distinctive coffee table as well. Entirely hand planed, the corners have hand-cut dovetails. There is very charming wear, mars, cracks and dents - lots of "character" to this antique furniture.
The patina is beautiful, hand-carved wooden pegs secure the moldings. There is fading and lots of wear to the painting, and there has been old touchup to the front. The interior is clean bare pine, with a compartment for valuables.
Lock and iron key are operational on this very picturesque folk artwork. Size of this antique chest is 47" long, 23" wide and 22" tall.
