Victorian Antique Ship Captain's or Davenport Desk

Very charming, this jewel was called a "Davenport" desk after its Victorian inventor. It is also referred to as a "ship captain's" desk, popular on board because of its compact small size.

Hand made of walnut about 1880, both locks are operational with keys. The leather writing surface lifts, exposing a finished interior with tiny compartments and a drawer. The top of the rear gallery opens, revealing tiny stationary compartments and a pen rest.

On the right side are four large drawers, all with beautifully hand-cut dovetails, drawer fronts on the left are false for the sake of symmetry.

The gleaming old finish is superb on all four sides. Dimensions are 22" wide, 21" deep, 33" tall, the gold tooled leather writing surface slopes up from 28" high at the front.
