Actually a traveling closet, this signed Art Deco period "Hartmann" steamship trunk was a necessity for serious train or ship travel in the 1930's. Rugged nickel mounts close this trunk, inside are velvet lined tiny jewelry drawers, a covered shoe caddy, hangers and pants clamps - everything for formal dining on shipboard.
Bakelite drawer pulls are original on this vintage "luggage" signed by famous luggage maker, "Hartmann of Racine, Wis." The lock is missing, but the hasp turns, unlatching to open the trunk.
There are dings and mars where the latches and locks were forced, probably the dirty work of a jewel thief. Size is 29" wide, 22" deep and 41" tall when closed.
