Hand-made about 1880, this Dickensian Victorian cylinder or barrel roll top desk is beautifully worn. The original finish is very good with lots of patina - stains, scratches and mars from well over a century of use.
The roll opens smoothly, inside is a pull-out writing surface with leather tops. In the center, an adjustable wooden easel mechanisms raises the middle section. Three tiny drawers have birdseye maple fronts. Drawers are hand-dovetailed, the knobs are original except for one replaced long ago.
A functional and congenial working desk, this antique furniture separates into three pieces for moving. Size is 54" wide, 29" deep, 44" tall, and the leather top is 29" high. The kneehole is about 23" wide and 26" high.
