Wondrously detailed, this bronze sculpture of a stag and hunting dog is signed "Labrierre." Paul Edouard Labrierre was born in Paris in 1829, he studied with the painter Delestre, but found his calling in three-dimensional sculpture. He was a member of the famous "Animalier" school in late 1800's Paris, specializing in popular subjects like this heroic example, with exceptional and realistic detailing.

Labrierre was chosen to exhibit at the Salon of Paris exhibitions from 1848-1882. One of his largest groups was mounted on a facade of the Louvre Museum in Paris in 1857. This bold statue dates from about 1890, the artist died in 1912.

The base is a naturalistic view of the forest floor, and the golden patina is very slightly worn. Size of this historic work of art is 15" long and 16" tall.
