A spectacular Victorian "rotary" desk has two banks of drawers that rotate outward. The slanted top is leather, behind is a brass filigree gallery that flips open, revealing tiny tiger maple stationary, inkwell and pen compartments. There is a lock on the lid, inside is another tiny drawer.
The original finish is in fine condition and the beautiful golden oak is accented with ebony. This desk has warm glowing patina, old repairs and touchups at the edges, see photos.
The right and left swivel banks of drawers have chamfered bottoms and tiny hand-cut dovetails in solid mahogany, also miniature square nails. At the right rear is a door giving access to a large compartment for large maps and drawings. This 1870 era design recalls the famous "Wooton" desks of the same period.
Measurements of this charming antique furniture closed are 29" wide, 24" deep and 34" tall, open width is 4'8" total.
