A stately Victorian secretary desk has a bookcase top. Hand carved of solid walnut with book matched burl panels, this exquisite secretary also has fruit and leaf pulls and keyhole escutcheons.
This American antique dates from about 1870. The separate upper bookcase section has shelves, adjustable on wooden supports. There is saddle leather on the fold-open writing surface. Drawers have "racetrack" curved moldings and round or pin-and-cove dovetailed joints, characteristic of the period.
The warm brown finish has wonderful antique patina, there are old repairs, mars and wear, see photos.
Size is 45" wide, 22" deep, 7'2" tall and the writing surface slopes up from 31" at the front.
