Exquisitely hand painted and lacquered, this genuine Victorian papier mache sewing stand or table dates from about 1860.
The original finish and gold painting over black lacquer are in amazing condition, with some crackling or crazing - see photos.
The interior is amazing, tiny compartments have original worn silk covers and remarkable carved Mother-of- Pearl spools are along the sides. Artistry on this antique furniture is extravagant.
There have been professional repairs to the feet, and the stand is sound and stable. Measurements are 22" x 22" at the base, height is 29."
