Crafted for a general store to sell thread, a solid oak Victorian spool cabinet and desk would make a very nice jewelry cabinet.
Drawers have tiny "finger" dovetails, one was later fitted for money. Paneled on all sides, the rich brown finish is very fine with lots of character - mars and ink stains - and warm antique patina.
The slanting writing surface is hinged and has a saddle leather top, revealing a shallow space underneath wonderful for jewelry. Above is a pen rest and an iron inkwell.
Brass hardware with a few dents is original from about 1890. Size of this countertop American Victorian furniture is 33" wide, 23" deep, and 15" tall. This item has sold.
