A traditional six panel "coromandel" screen has layers of hand painted lacquer, delicately carved to reveal the colors underneath the black top layer. It is about 50 years old.
One side has natural plants and birds, the more decorative side shows a classic Imperial garden, with court figures, pavilions and even a horse. There are some mars and touchups to the original lacquer finish, see photos. This Chinese work of art has subtle shading and fascinating perspective.
Each panel measures 16" wide and 7' tall, so if it were stretched out flat, it would be 8' wide.
