An exquisite pair of inlaid marquetry chairs were hand crafted about 1860 in the Dutch East Indies colonies (now Indonesia) for export back to Holland.
The design is traditional late 17th century baroque. Solid mahogany with satinwood marquetry designs, the expert work is irregular, showing that the artistry is entirely done with hand tools.
Frames are strong and tight with various restorations over the years. The finish is in excellent condition with glowing antique patina. Seats have old hand stitched needlepoint upholstery, they are removable and easy to change if desired.
Measurements are 21" wide, 22" deep, 45" tall and seats are 19" high.
