A charming Brittany mirror hand carved of solid chestnut can hang on the wall, and also has a flat display shelf base to rest on a fireplace mantel or over a sink or sideboard.
The intricate traditional folk artistry is outstanding with an arched gallery of acorns, and this mirror was hand carved about 1895.
Brittany or Bretagne is a maritime province of northwest France. Formerly a separate country, the "Breton" language is still spoken. Famous for their cultural traditions and distinctive dress, the local hand-carved furniture has outstanding workmanship, using native local hardwoods with picturesque traditional motifs.
The finish is excellent on this heirloom furniture, which traditionally descended with the daughters of a family, as part of their dowry. Size is 34" wide, 4" deep and 49" tall.
