Carved Oak Sideboard with Birds, Heads & Fruit c1870

This solid oak sideboard was lavishly hand-carved with three dimensional lion heads, fruits, and even birds with a nest. The carving is really amazing, the fruit is in the round, the birds are lifelike, and even the deep moldings are hand carved. Side panels are raised, and the back has hand chamfered panels and dovetailed joinery. This incredible sideboard dates from the 1870's.

The top is a separate piece from the two pedestals for easier moving. The warm medium brown finish is in excellent condition, and glorifies the beautiful solid oak. There are old shrinkage cracks in side panels that are well repaired. Dimensions are 7'1" long, 28" deep and 36" tall. This piece exhibits some of the most dramatic and lifelike hand carving we have seen.
