Exquisite craftsmanship from about 1900, this authentic Tansu or Japanese furniture is made of golden ash hardwood.
This style of antique fruniture was called either a merchant chest or "Mizuya," a kitchen storage cabinet. Wooden pegs and hand-cut mortise joints show outstanding cainetry.
The original finish has wonderful warm patina, and wrought iron hardware is original Made in two separate sections for portability, there is a hand-painted inscription on the top of the base, see photo.
The interiors have recently been custom fitted with elaborate lacquered liners that are removable if desired. Dimensions are 38" wide, 17" deep and 68" tall.
