Signed "L & F Moreau," members of the famous French family of sculptors, this statue of a street musician, a Gypsy fiddler, is mounted as a lamp and dates from about 1895.
This work of art is characteristic of how artist's were drawn to Naturalism during the Art Nouveau period. The barefoot fiddle player has set his bow on the ground as he counts the coins he has collected.
Cast in spelter metal, a white metal alloy similar to pewter, the deep bronze patinated finish has charming wear for antique character, see photos.
On the back is a switch for the brass light sockets. This antique from France is 22" tall.
