Handmade in Pennsylvania about 1840, this small chest is actually a commode or washstand with a lift lid, often called a "bonnet box."
There is space inside for a bowl and pitcher. Below are drawers with chamfered bottoms and hand-cut dovetails. The top is solid mahogany, and drawer fronts have matched flame grain mahogany.
A rich, deep finish is very good with some mars at the edges (see photo) that have been touched up on this antique furniture, and size is 33" wide, 19" deep and 34" tall.
