We believe this brass double-lidded box with copper liners and iron grater was intended for spice preparation, there is a well for a whole nutmeg next to the grater.
On the lids are worn engravings of a family crest plus maker's signature and address that are difficult to discern. Four copper bowls inside have a traditional tinned finish to prevent reactions with food.
This distinctive antique dates from the mid 1800's and measures 11" square and 3 1/2" tall.
This piece can be shipped USPS with insurance, within the Continental US for $20.00.
