An authentic watchmaker's work bench has 15 drawers and a cloth bottom "parts catcher," to collect tiny screws and springs that might fall out of a movement. On three sides is a gallery, plus a groove along the front for the same reason.
This antique is from about 1915 - a time when watches and clocks were all meant to be repaired.
The lustrous finish is excellent on birch, pine and oak, there are mars at the edges from long use. Intended for use with a stool, measurements are 40 1/2" wide, 20" deep, 39" high and legroom is 30 1/2" high.
