An authentic Swiss music box from the 1890's plays 10 tunes on a 13" cylinder, titled a "Sublimette Piccolo-Zither." The silvery bell like sound is beautiful, with the usual clicks of an all original instrument, please listen to the recording below.
There are levers to play continuously or stop at the end of a tune and repeat a tune or move to the next melody. Teeth are intact on the "comb," the jeweled mechanism works very well. A lever at the left winds the double spring movement.
The original hand scripted card lists the ten favorite tunes placed on the roll, which was an engagement gift to a young woman. Familiar opera arias, dance tunes and "The Old Folks at Home" are included.
The case is also all original, inlaid with walnut, rosewood and intricate floral marquetry with a very fine finish.
Measurements of this historic musical instrument are 29" long, 13" deep and 9 1/2" tall.
