An authentic Country French armoire is genuine Louis XV from around 1780. Hewn and hand carved of solid fruitwood, every surface shows tool and planing marks. Carved wooden pegs secure the corners. Crown and doors are removable for easier moving of this historic furniture from southern France.
The old finish is in very fine condition with warm antique patina. Waxed and buffed, only an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth is needed to maintain its warm glow. There are warps and irregularities that show the hand work of a master 18th Century cabinetmaker. A key operates the huge lock. Two later interior shelves are removable. Wrought iron hardware appears original, one finial is missing on the bottom of one lift off hinge.
Measurements are 60" wide at the crown, 52" wide in the body, 25" deep, 7' 7 1/2" tall and the interior is 19" deep.
