A splendid American Empire period chest or sideboard from around 1840 is mahogany with shaped columns, matched flame grain panels and hand carved lion paw feet.
The gleaming finish is in excellent condition. A few shrinkage separations from age for antique character are visible in the top, cut from a single wide mahogany board, see photos.
Large drawers have beautiful tiny hand cut dovetail joints and chamfered bottoms. A key works the locks on this imposing historic furniture from the Eastern US. Square nails and hand planing marks are authentic.
Measurements are 48 1/2" wide, 24" deep and 52 1/2" tall.
