This lovely marble sculpture of a young woman with a water jug is signed "A. Batacchi, Florence," and was hand carved in the late 1800's.
Famed for his graceful and beautiful works of art, this artist worked in the later 1800's in Florence, Italy. His biography is little known, but his characteristic style is found in many antique statues that have been sold at auction around the world for as much as $79,000.
This classical figure is beautifully draped. There are minor rough spots and edges plus losses to the fingers of her left hand, see photos.
Dimensions of this exquisite European work of art are about 8" across and 23 1/2" tall.
