A genuine Georgian period tall or long case clock was hand crafted in England about 1790. The original brass movement runs a week on a winding and keeps excellent time. A bell strikes counting the hours and has been professionally cleaned and oiled.
Original dial painting is well preserved, signed by the maker "Riviere of Cheltenham". The spa town is at the edges of the scenic Cotswolds area, famed for its waters and charm. There is a very small crack in the upper corner of the glass, see photo.
The solid mahogany case is inlaid with ebony and satinwood with flame grain panels. The warm finish is in excellent condition with just enough wear, shrinkage cracks and tiny repairs preserved for antique character, see photos.
This clock needs to be "set up" when delivered - weights and pendulum attached and the case leveled. Most of our customers can do this as we walk them through the fairly simple steps by phone. The process is not very difficult, and it is also nice to know how to do this again whenever the clock needs to be moved for cleaning, painting or whatever. A few customers prefer to hire a local clockmaker at their own expense to make a house-call and set up the clock, which is usually not very expensive, depending on your location.
Size is 19" wide, 11" deep and 7 ' 2" tall.
