From the Hepplewhite period in the 1820's, this New England secretary desk is solid mahogany with inlaid marquetry and banding. Hand cut dovetail joints are visible on the upper corners and in all the drawer joinery.
The satiny finish is in excellent condition on this American made antique furniture. Oak leaf and acorn brasses appear original on graduated drawers. The locking dropfront rests on pull out supports.
Secret compartments inside are opened with finger holes, the inner door locks as well. The back is hand planed and attached with square nails. There are minor shrinkage separations from age.
Size is 37" wide, 20" deep and 42" tall. The writing surface is 30 1/2" from the floor.
