Said to be from New England, this secretary desk was hand crafted of solid cherry about 1820 during the Federal period. A superb satiny finish enhances the richly figured grain and preserves a few shrinkage separations, see photos.
There are various restorations over the centuries, including feet which were rebuilt long ago. Exposed hand cut dovetail joints are visible at the upper corners and on the lower drawers.
Drawer bottoms are chamfered on this antique American made furniture, pulls are old but not original. The drop front has a working lock and key, and rests on pull out supports. Inside are tiny cubicles and drawers for documents.
Dimensions are 40 1/2" wide, 22" deep, 41" tall and the writing surface is 31" high.
