A spectacular piece of architectural salvage was hand carved of solid oak about 1890 for a Church of England Bishop's Manor House.
There are musicians, the Angel Gabriel and an Annunciation scene with Mary, griffins, Gothic tracery, grapevines and much more exquisite artistry on this massive antique furniture. Brought to America in the 1990's, this historic treasure was modified to use as a fireplace mantel and signed by the artisans who did that work in 2000, see photos.
The restored finish is in excellent condition. Sculptures are three dimensional and wonderfully proportioned on this grandly scaled piece. It could be a mantel, bed, or raised at the base as an entryway or doorway.
Hand wrought grillwork is bronze. There are 8 separate pieces that stack securely together, the heaviest is the upper cross section with the angel sculpture, which needs six men to lift up into place. Components are top crown, the heavy top center section, four columns and two bases.
Overall size is 10' 3" wide, 42" deep and 9' 9" tall. The opening is 74" wide and 73" tall.
