A sideboard with china cabinet was hand carved of solid oak about 1890 in France, and has lion head sculptures plus leaded stained glass doors with faceted jewels.
The top of the base is revarnished for durability, the rest of the original finish is in very fine condition with just enough mars and wear for a little character. Waxed and buffed, all that is needed to maintain the warm patina is an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth. Entirely hand carved, there are shrinkage separations from age, see photos.
Sometimes called a "court cupboard," pieces like this were a traditional dowry piece, loaded with a bride's silver or pewter and linens for her new home. This European antique furniture is stacking pieces for easier durability. Brass hardware is original, keys operate upper and lower doors.
Measurements are 49 1/2" wide tip to tip, 20" deep and 88 1/2" tall, the base is 40" high.
