An exceptional Victorian Renaissance commode or nightstand from about 1870 could also serve as a small bar cabinet or end table. Made of solid walnut with burl panels and columns, there is also a marble top.
The original finish is remarkably well preserved, and has been waxed and buffed, so all that is needed to maintain the warm patina is an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth. There are irregularities, shrinkage separations from age and mars for a little antique character.
American made, the drawer has original exquisite pulls and hand cut dovetail joints. The door key is a handle only, the lock does not work. The shaped "Tennessee Red" marble top has been polished and given a protective finish. Porcelain wheels are also original.
Size is 27" wide, 18" deep and 33 1/2" tall.
