A set of four hand carved "Black Forest" dining or game chairs from about 1875 have original embossed leather upholstery with angels or cherubs.
The original finish is very well preserved on strong and tight solid walnut frames, carved with artistic traditional griffin motifs. There is wear and damage in places to the impressed leather, secured with brass nailheads.
The Black Forest extends from southern Germany into Switzerland, and is famous for wood carving and cuckoo clocks.
These historic chairs measure 19" wide, 18" deep, 46" tall and seats are 18 1/2" high.
