A very Grand American Empire tall chest from around 1825 has classical acanthus carved columns and lion paw feet. Richly figured mahogany with matched flame or crotch grain panels, the deep satiny finish is in excellent condition with a few mars at the edges for antique character.
Hand carved by a master, there are rope moldings and fine details. Drawers have hand cut dovetail joinery and chamfered bottoms, there are hand planing marks. The solid mahogany top has been rebuilt.
This wonderful historic furniture measures 45 1/2" wide, 23" deep and 50" tall.
