From the 1890's, this late Victorian or Eastlake period oak reed or pump organ is signed "Burdett by Hobart & McCabe of Chicago." Solid fine grained oak, the original dark finish has the crackling or crazing that comes with age.
Delicate "spoon" or chip carving is characteristic of the era. The original beveled mirror has antique "smoke." All but a few keys play well when the pedals are pumped.
The "Vox Humana" or Human Voice stop has a tremolo or vibrato. "Couplers" for playing an extra octave work, there are knee operated levers for "swell" or louder volume. A sliding panel covers the keys, there is storage behind the music desk.
Measurements of this American made musical instrument are 45" wide, 23" deep and 80" tall to the top of the galleries.
