Item# A-19588

This Netherlands traditional "Kas" or armoire is a dowry cabinet hand made in the early 1800's. Fine grained oak has accents of genuine rosewood and ebony are from colonies in the Dutch West Indies.

The original finish is in excellent condition, waxed and buffed so all that is needed to maintain its warm patina is an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth. The classic design includes raised panels, a large crown, bun feet and a hand carved frieze around the top.

A sliding cover reveals a keyhole for the working lock. Joints have carved wooden pegs, hand planing marks can be felt everywhere on this historic furniture. There are shrinkage separations from age, see photos. Inside are two drawers. This antique heirloom would have held a young woman's linens and silver, and moved with her when she married.

Measurements are 66" wide at the crown, 55" wide in the body, 28" deep and 6' 8" tall.
