Crafted about 1870 for an affluent Victorian child, this diminutive secretary desk with bookcase top is solid walnut.
The old finish is very well preserved, enhancing carved details and burl panels. The locking drop front opens to a leather writing surface, tiny drawers inside have hand cut dovetail joints and chamfered bottoms, just like the large lower drawer. Behind etched glass doors, book shelves adjust on wooden supports. Square nails are visible on this American made antique furniture. The upper section lifts off for easier moving.
Measurements are 35" wide, 20" deep and 79" tall, the writing surface is 27" tall.
