Everything a butler on Downton Abbey would need in one place: a desk at standing height with cubicles and drawers for papers plus wine or liquor drawers.
This style of desk from the 1830's was often used by a butler, who was the "CEO" of a large manor house.
The satiny finish is in excellent condition on this hand crafted American made antique furniture from the East Coast. Mahogany wood has hand carved columns with acanthus details and lion paw feet. Panels of matched flame grain mahogany are banded.
Original brass push button mechanisms with arms releases the drop front, the pull out desk has a saddle leather writing surface. Inside are tiny drawers with two different kinds of knobs and cubicles for bills and receipts. A door has a key as a handle only, the lock does not work.
The high backsplash has "chimney pot" ends, like a New England house. Lower doors have working locks. All drawers have hand cut dovetail joints.
Measurements are 52 1/2" wide, 25" deep, 60" tall and the writing surface is 38" high.
