A marvelous French three piece mantel clock set from the 1890's is signed by the Paris maker, and has a statue of "Phoebe" signed by sculptor, Emile Bruchon. The sculpture and mounts are "spelter," a pewter-like white metal alloy. Original dark gold and bronze finishes have just enough wear for a little antique patina. Red marble bases are in very fine condition with minor chips, see photos.
Phoebe in Greek mythology is associated with the moon, and is the grandmother of Apollo. The sculptor, Emile Bruchon, has works in museums across Europe and America. His dates are sometimes given as 1870-1909, he was a student of the famed Mathurin Moreau and exhibited in the Paris Salon in 1880. Bruchon's work is classical with an Art Nouveau interpretation.
The original signed brass movement has been professionally cleaned and oiled, it keeps excellent time and chimes the hour and half on a silvery bell. Dial is hand painted porcelain.
The clock measures 11" wide, 7" deep and 24" tall. Both candelabra are 8" wide, 8" deep and 25" tall.
