An 1880's lap or travel desk was the laptop of the Victorian era. Genuine rosewood inlaid with brass, the old finish is very well preserved with a few mars and has been waxed and buffed. All that is needed to maintain the patina is an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth. There are some shrinkage separations from age near the corner mounts as shown.
The lock works, because the lid is slightly warped, a little pressure is needed to lock. When a divider near the pen and inkwell compartments is lifted, a lower panel pops open, accessing two secret drawers below.
There is storage for papers inside this picturesque antique from England. The dedication plaque was not engraved.
Size is 14" wide, 10" deep and 5 1/2" tall when closed, 20" deep with a slanting writing top when opened.
