Hand crafted about 1830 during the Sheraton period, an East Coast mahogany secretary desk has matched flame grain.
The old finish is very well preserved and has been waxed and polished, so all that is needed to maintain its warm antique patina is an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth. There are numerous shrinkage separations from age for a little antique character.
Doors have reverse raised panels and a working lock and key in the removable upper section. Small drawers inside have solid mahogany sides with tiny hand cut dovetail joints and original brass hardware. Victorian pasteboard file boxes are over 100 years old but probably not original.
The drop front has a new natural saddle leather writing surface, and slopes up from 31 1/2" at the front edge. Lower drawers have hand cut dovetail joints, legs are hand reeded. Hand planing marks show expert workmanship on in this exquisite American made library furniture. Dimensions are 40" wide, 20" deep and 58" tall.
