A small Japanese "kanto naga Hibachi" brazier from the early 1900's is curly elm with a copper lining and has been fitted to use as a coffee table.
A piece of glass covers the copper fire area and has a tiny drilled hole where a knob could be attached if desired. Originally, a small charcoal fire was used for cooking, making tea and heating sake wine.
Drawers for towels, tea leaves and dried seaweed were built with hand cut dovetail joints and wooden pegs. Rear corner joints are dovetailed. The copper lining has nice antique patina, see photos.
The old finish is very well preserved and has been waxed and buffed, preserving stains, restorations and mars for a little antique character. All that is needed to maintain its warm patina is an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth.
Size is 43" long, 24" deep and 14" tall.
