A splendid Empire period mahogany secretary desk looks like a chest of drawers when closed, and was hand crafted in the 1830's.
The restored finish is in excellent condition, enhancing matched shimmering flame grain panels and banding. There have been various restorations over the years on this American made antique furniture.
Hand carved spiral columns, acanthus and lion paw motifs are authentic. Drawers have hand cut dovetail joints, brass pulls are later. The interior is fitted with tiny compartments and drawers with curly maple fronts for documents.
Dimensions are 45 1/2" wide, 24" deep and 43 1/2" tall, the drop down desktop is 31" high when opened.
