A solid oak "pirate chest" is actually a blanket or dowry chest, hand crafted in Germany about 1750. Hand wrought iron mounts and the giant working lock and key are original.
The old finish is very well preserved, waxed and buffed so all that is needed to maintain the warm patina is an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth. The curved top is attached with carved oak pegs, lower joints have hand cut dovetails. There are losses to the hammered iron mounts plus shrinkage separations from age on this rugged historic antique furniture. Feet are later.
Measurements are 66" long, 28" deep and 34" tall.
