A statue of a young lady holding a flower as she dances through a garden dates from the Art Nouveau period about 1900, and is signed, "J. Causse."
The graceful sculpture has an original dark bronze and verdigris finish. Deeply detailed, this work of art from France is spelter, an alloy metal. There is a finger tip lost on her right hand, see photos. A wooden base is grain painted with a red marble finish.
Julien Causse was born in Bourges in 1869 and died in Paris in 1914. He achieved fame at he Universal Exposition or world's fair of 1900 in Paris for his sensual realism. His works are in numerous museums.
