Hand crafted during the Sheraton period about 1800, a mahogany secretary desk has a bookcase top with an inlaid curly "birdseye" maple crest and matched flame grain.
The restored finish is in excellent condition on this American made antique furniture, said to be from upstate New York. Carved grillwork doors have old wavy glass panes, some secured with modern silicone. The left door has a warp from age but closes. There are matched spiral columns. The flip open desk has new saddle leather and rests on pull out supports.
Drawers have hand cut dovetail joints, and square cut nails are visible on the backside. There have been various restorations over the centuries, as well as shrinkage separations, especially in the back as shown. Brass hardware is of various ages. The upper bookcase is removable for easier delivery.
Dimensions are 43" wide, 21" deep and 7'3" tall. The writing surface is 31" high.
