This style of space-economic desk is called a "Davenport" after its inventor, and also a "ship captain's" desk because of its efficient use of space. Carved of solid walnut with burl about 1875, the sloping desktop has old faux leather.
The restored satiny finish is in excellent condition on this American made antique furniture. There are dividers and a pen rest in the top drawer. Hand carved pulls are walnut tree leaves, drawers and the case have tiny hand cut dovetail joints.
Dimensions are 25" wide, 23" deep, the top slants from 32" tall at the front to 35" tall at the back book gallery.
