Hand hewn of solid walnut in the early 1800's, this charming and rustic pewter cupboard is from northern Europe.
The fine old finish glows with warm antique patina and lots of character - wear, losses and mars, see photos. Rope moldings and a spindle gallery show expert workmanship by a country carpenter.
Wrought iron hinges are original, working door locks and keys are later replacements. Hand saw marks on the back are authentic on this northern European furniture.
A traditional dowry piece like this would descend with the daughter of a family, made to hold her prized linens and pewter.
Shelves have a rail for plate display. Dimensions are 45" wide, 15" deep and 83 1/2" tall.
