This wonderful New England furniture was created about 1835 as an Empire period chest or dresser, sometime later a very skilled carpenter reduced its depth to fit a particular spot as a console.
Entirely hand made of solid cherry and shimmering tiger or curly maple, the satiny finish is excellent. The front edge of the cherry top is beautiful - natural golden sapwood. When the drawers were shortened, they were hand dovetailed, just as when first made.
Walnut knobs on the top two drawers are still secured with wooden dowels instead of screws. Drawer bottoms are chamfered on this charming American antique.
When the drawers are opened, this chest can tip forward, so we recommend screwing it to the wall for stability. Size is 46" wide, 15" deep and 48" tall.
