Entirely hand made by a master craftsman about 1790, this authentic Georgian tall chest on chest is mahogany with delicate inlaid banding of ebony, palisander and satinwood. The finish is in very fine condition on this historic furniture from England.
Large drawers have tiny hand cut dovetails, some bottoms are replacements. Embossed brasses may well be original, as unlikely as it seems. Natural bone key hole escutcheons are inlaid. Hand planing can be felt everywhere, rose cut nails are visible on the backside, typical of 18th Century construction.
The upper section lifts off for easier moving. There are shrinkage separations from age, particularly on the sides, see photos. This large and majestic chest has had various repairs over the years and there are mars at the edges.
Well proportioned, measurements of this impressive antique are 44" wide, 22" deep and 48" tall.
